Designers might be dropping their spring/summer lines in-store, but winter’s chilly climes are still dictating our wardrobes right now: rain, snow, icy blasts of Arctic winds – it’s best that you’re prepared for it all. And while my indoor go-to is the duvet, outside, a puffer jacket is definitely the next best thing.
Fortunately, new-season puffers are functional and fashion-forward. Street-style stars at Copenhagen Fashion Week have been spotted wrapped up in a variety of different styles, paving the way for a whole new spectrum of colours, finishes and prints. Think bold patterns, bright primary hues and corduroy textures. If, like me, you really feel the cold, mid-calf cuts are the only way to go: they’re literally the closest thing you can get to wearing a socially acceptable sleeping bag.
Styling such a bulky, sporty coat might seem daunting at first, but it’s actually the perfect piece to have fun with. Mix a printed puffer with a clashing design, or try head-to-toe colour for serious sartorial points. Whatever you do, don’t play it safe with jeans and trainers – the contrast of a puffer paired with a midi skirt and ankle boots is effortlessly chic, while mixing glam textures, like patent leather, with a nylon number is my ultimate style do.
So, before all the good ones are gone, here’s my edit on the best puffers out there now…
