While I love the build up to the festive season in London, as soon as the end of December draws close, I can’t wait to escape to sunnier climes. Perhaps it comes from living in the Southern Hemisphere most of my life, but I’ve always thought that the Christmas holidays should be spent on a beach, cocktail in hand. So if, like me, you would take a beach barbecue over roasted chestnuts right now, read on for your winter-holiday wardrobe.
I am a real sucker for swim/beach/resort wear of any kind so I’ve got the new-season must-haves nailed, and one piece I’m thrilled to see back on the scene is the bright-print, textured swimsuit, a là Hunza G, which works wonderfully with a tan. Next up, floaty lightweight fabrics to layer over my swimwear and wear into the balmy evenings. Brands like Cloe Cassandro and Innika Choo have the perfect investment pieces for hot and humid weather. When it comes to accessories, shell jewellery isn’t going anywhere and although it can be worn all year, a beach holiday is the ideal time to layer it up and wear with abandon. Look to Brinker & Eliza, Timeless Pearly and Tohum for some of the best styles around. I’ll pair these statement pieces with a basket bag and a neutral flat sandal (heels aren’t part of my holiday vocabulary) for an effortless combination, no matter where I am in the world.
So whilst everyone’s shopping carts are filling with mittens and Christmas jumpers, mine will be a colourful mix of linens, raffia and shells – just the way I like it. Here’s hoping Santa is reading my wish list below.…
