Why we’re obsessed with all things animal print

I’m Lucia and I’m an animal-print lover: leopard, to be precise. I’m absolutely riding that wild fashion wave right now, stocking up on everything from zebra and snake to leopard and cheetah – all faux, of course. And all fabulous.

Whether the look is captured top-to-toe or in one statement piece, you can banish any thoughts of tackiness because animal print is now considered a ‘neutral’ – so you can immediately place it alongside navy, black and grey in your sartorial mind. In short, it’s a staple that you need in your wardrobe; the perfect print to throw on when you are in desperate need of a little lift. (Hello, go-to Monday outfit.)

If you’re not yet a fan of in-your-face leopard spots, why not ease yourself in slowly with the Versace clumpy trainers below? They’ll make a great addition to your Sunday sweats and a denim jacket for weekend walks. Or maybe swap your trusty camel roll-neck for a leopard version. I rate the Ganni one below or this New Look steal, priced just £12.99. Layer under a block-colour dress for a fierce pop or team with flared jeans and heels for an easy evening spin.

One animal-print piece that is definitely worth investing in is the faux-fur coat. I have one that I get out year after year that goes with literally everything. Power-pattern dresses are another safe bet – I layer mine under chunky sweaters for a more casual look, or smarten them up with bold gold jewellery and ankle boots. When it comes to choosing complementing colours, if your print’s background shade is dark (see the Ganni roll-neck below), pair it with primary colours and jewel tones, but if you have a light-coloured base, like on the leopard skirt by See By Chloe, throw in some pastels. There’s something about a snake-print skirt and pastel-blue knit that brings me joy Every. Single. Day.
