Stylish winter dresses for the trouser-averse

Winter may still be in full swing but, for some of us, trouser fatigue has well and truly hit. Boiler suits might be all the rage, but you can’t beat an effortless dress for feeling instantly put-together.

Luckily, there’s a plethora of mid-season dress options still on the high street to keep us distracted until SS19 comes round. If you’re a fan of utility (see above boiler-suit reference), the shirt dress is a safe trend to back. I’m really into neutral linens, seen at H&M and Mango, or a more fashion-forward animal print, by way of & Other Stories or Kitri.

Personally, I hate wearing tights, so I pair my shirt dresses with long boots or jeans to beat the chill. I’m also backing lightweight knits in autumnal colours like khaki, brown or burgundy. For extra sartorial points, team all the above with a chunky trainer. Try Zara for the hottest high-street styles, or Allude and Raey for designer kicks.

Finally, if you’re after a day-to-night number, look to luxe materials such as velvet or satin, and accessorise with metallic tights and a slipper heel for the evening. Brand-of-the-moment, The Vampire’s Wife, has some particularly fabulous looks for frill seekers.
