The pieces every fashion girl needs to go skiing

Hitting the slopes this winter? Thankfully, skiwear has moved on from the brightly coloured shell suits of the 90s and evolved into a market with brands dedicated to the sport, as well as websites offering more choice than ever – check out the ski studio at Matchesfashion.com. The high-street has also started producing stylish, premium-quality skiwear. Topshop was one of the first – we love its colourful, fun and remarkably well-priced ‘SNO’ range.

Even if you’re not a skier, looking the part is half the fun, especially with so many amazing pieces to choose from. Packing light is never really an option for a ski holiday but, whether you’re there for the slopes or the après-ski, there are a few essentials to add to your suitcase. Layering is the key to a chic daytime look. Stock up on base layers in fun patterns in case you need to take off your jacket once you really get going. One-piece ski suits look super-cute, but they just aren’t practical. Instead, opt for stylish ski trousers with a complementary jacket (they don’t need to be matching). A faux-fur jacket will not only keep you warm, but it will also dress up your post-ski look. And don’t forget your accessories. Invest in a pair of cool snow boots, such as moon boots or something sleeker, and headwear is a must-have – logo beanies are a big trend this season. Finally, unless you plan to fly down off-piste paths, polarized sunnies can take the place of ski goggles, and make a much chicer transition from skiing to socialising.
