Trish Halpin, Editor-in-Chief at Marie Claire

My style in three words…

‘Well put together’. This is how Marie Claire’s fashion director Jayne Pickering describes my style and I take it as a compliment. I’m quite classic, very neat with chic little touches and great accessories.

Best sartorial advice I’ve ever received…

Less is more. I think hard about everything I buy and would rather have a few beautiful well-made items than a wardrobe rammed with stuff.

My biggest fashion fail…

Making a pencil skirt in needlework class when I was 14, which I then wore on a school trip and the seams split open! More recently, buying heels I can’t walk in.

Best thing I’ve ever bought…

A Helmut Lang trouser suit. I bought it when I first became an editor nearly 20 years ago and it was the the first designer item I ever invested in.

The famous wardrobe I would kill to own…

Coco Chanel. She was more than ‘well put together’ – she was perfectly put together.

My desert-island piece….

Silk PJs – they make everything feel OK. In my dreams they’d be from Olivia Von Halle but, in reality, they’re from The White Company, which has beautiful sets in gorgeous colours.
